Northvolt, a leading European lithium - ion battery manufacturer
Northvolt, a leading European lithium - ion battery manufacturer, has partnered with Cinis Fertilizer to launch a large - scale sodium sulphate recovery project at its gigafactory in Sweden. The initiative aims to upcycle sodium sulphate—a by - product of battery recycling and production—into low - carbon agricultural fertilizer. The plant, which became operational in early 2025, can recover 200,000 tons of sodium sulphate annually, preventing the chemical from being sent to landfills. The resulting fertilizer is rich in sulfur and sodium, essential nutrients for crops like wheat and corn, and has already been certified for use in organic farming across the EU.
